With forty permanent members, the Chorus of the Opéra National de Bordeaux has, since 1940, been directed in
succession by Roger Lemoyne, Gérard Winkler, Alain Housset, Michel Tranchant and Gunter Wagner. Since 1999
it has been directed by Jacques Blanc, Director of Choral and Vocal Studies. In addition to its other operatic work
the chorus has been associated with world premières of La Main de Gloire by Jean Françaix, Henri Sauguet’s Les
Saisons, Tomasi’s Sampiero Corso, Landowski’s Montségur, as well as French or Bordeaux premières of Ivan IV,
Christophe Colomb, Jeanne au Bûcher, Peter Grimes and other works. Since 1990 the chorus has taken part in a
large number of productions, among them Don Carlos, Il trovatore, Così fan tutte, Rigoletto, Le nozze di Figaro, La
vie parisienne, Falstaff, Die Fledermaus, and Der Fliegende Holländer, as well as in symphony concerts with the
Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine.
